Abstract Wikipedia and Wikifunctions empower volunteers to create language-independent content that can be adapted to any Wikipedia language edition. This work bridges gaps across hundreds of smaller language communities, making knowledge available in ways it never has been before. There are 120,000+ contributions by contributors from more than 50 countries.
Case Study: The Igbo Language
A contributor developed a tool that transforms base-form Igbo verbs into imperative verbs. When tested with Igbo language leaders, it proved accurate — a moment of pride and empowerment for an underserved language community. This is a concrete example of how technology, powered by human contribution, expands knowledge access globally.
